In 2002, Tommy Cofield re-formed the law firm in Lexington after the death of his father, C. Thomas Cofield, III. The late Mr. Cofield had practiced with several firms in the Upstate of South Carolina in Greenville County and Anderson County, and he founded Cofield Law Firm in 1990. The late Mr. Cofield practiced primarily in the areas of Real Estate, Probate/Wills, and Personal Injury Litigation. He was also the former city judge in Mauldin, South Carolina.
Tommy Cofield served two years as law clerk for Circuit Court Judge Walter T. Cox, III, and thereafter, he entered private practice in Columbia, South Carolina with Barnes Alford Stork and Johnson, where he practiced for eighteen years mostly in civil litigation
